Christian Group Fights Against Poverty

Posted: 22 May 12 | By: NG Team

One CU from Stoke-on-Trent has decided to use their group to help in the fight against poverty!

We met Matt, the leader of this group recently and here’s what he told us…

‘Last term, the Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form CU did a cake sale to sponsor Water Aid, which raised over £150! Shortly after, we found out about a local organisation called the ‘Food Bank’, which takes food donations to give to people in poverty in Stoke-On-Trent. As poverty is a growing issue in our area, we decided to see how we could help out (bit of a food-related theme going on!). We put out some boxes and gave out leaflets advertising it with a list of long-life foods people can donate, and within the first week the two boxes were full!!’

We are so proud of this CU and very excited by the way God has blessed their outreach!

We think that supporting a good charity such as Water Aid or Food Bank is a great thing to do as a CU. It will also certainly spark conversations with people about why we as Christians believe in helping the poor! The CU is also in the process of preparing Gospel leaflets to put by the food bank to let their friends know about our amazing hope!
