New Generation is a cross-denominational movement of young Christians meeting in groups to do creative outreach in their schools and pray together. They get together to bless their school and reach their friends by organising events, putting up posters, giving out bibles or giving away cakes. Anything to bless their school and friends in a new creative way. All of this with the intention of bringing Jesus into their world and to their friends —to bring light into a dark world that needs God.

If you’re a youth leader or a pastor and you’re passionate about seeing the young people in your church sharing their faith with people around them like this, and you want to help them make their Christian faith a part of their everyday life in school why not bring New Generation along to your church for a youth meeting? We’d love to meet up with you to share some inspiration and ideas about how to live out faith in school and help you and your young people with the resources we have.

Feel free to contact us by email, Facebook or phone for more information and to book the team for next year. We’re looking forward to meeting you!

We’re now approaching the end of the school year, and many of you CU leaders out there are probably finishing your last term and planning the exciting new step of what comes after school. Perhaps you are waiting for replies from the different Universities you’ve applied for, maybe you’re planning your Gap Year or trying to find a job. Much needs to be planned, many problems need to be solved and solutions found.

And to add to the long list of question marks; what happens with the Christian Union? Who takes over the leader role and how do you make sure that it doesn’t die when you leave school? Many of you are probably already a step ahead, and in your school someone has stepped up to the plate. But what do you do if there’s no one there who desperately wants to take on the CU and be the driving force that pushes everyone that extra bit to keep going?

Actually, it doesn’t have to be that difficult. If there’s someone or some people in your CU that have a special skill for organising or like to plan which bible verse to share each week, give them that bit of responsibility and let them try out what it’s like to lead. Maybe you can think of someone in your CU that would be perfect for leading, but that person doesn’t know it themselves — start preparing them now so that it won’t be too big of a step to take on the role of CU leader when you’re gone.

If you’re not sure what to say to the new leader or how to pass the baton on, we’d love to help and make the transition as simple as possible for you. Contact us on our Facebook or via email, and we can come for a “Handover Coffee”, have a chat with you and the new leader, simply talk about what can be good to think about and help you prepare a bit for next year.

“Others First” – we print it on posters, we wear “Others First” badges, we keep using the phrase on Facebook and to add to it all, we’ve written an article about it. Really, what’s the fuss all about?

The phrase ‘Others First’ doesn’t mean that you should give your only umbrella to someone who’s already got one and get all soaked in the pouring, cold rain. It doesn’t mean to be self sacrificial in a way that would make you sacrifice so much of yourself that there is nothing left. It doesn’t mean that your grades don’t matter, that your gifts are not of any value and it doesn’t mean that you don’t matter.

It simply means that you are driven by something greater than selfish needs, by a will to see and care about the people around you. It means that you’ve understood that of all servants, Jesus was the greatest. And if the son of God could serve other people, sacrificing comfort and reputation, shouldn’t we be doing the same?

It means that if you see someone sitting alone in the canteen, you sacrifice the comfort of sitting with your friends to be a good friend to someone else. It means that it’s more important to you that everyone in your school gets to hear about the gospel than that you get to keep the reputation you’ve built up for yourself. It means that you’ve understood that God loves everyone. That he loves you and he loves your classmate, your neighbour, your dentist and your PE teacher.

It’s an attitude where you care about other people, and want to live a life where others matter more. A life where you serve like Jesus did. Why not try applying an ‘Others First’ attitude to your lifestyle; a short prayer, a kind gesture, an action out the ordinary – go for it!

The end of term is getting closer, and what an amazing year it’s been so far! We’ve absolutely loved hearing about all the creative and exciting outreaches that have been going on. Like at Ashfield School in Nottingham, where the group handed out cookies with bible verses in their school for Valentine’s Day or Matt from Stoke-on-Trent, who gave out hot cross buns to advertise the start-up of his CU.
Or the group from Gordano School in Bristol that handed out cakes and did “Grill-a-Christian“, an event that got so many people interested that they’re now also organizing “Grill-an-Atheist” just to keep the conversation about faith going at school. Even though it’s now getting close to the end of the year, they’ve decided to keep going until the very end of the school term and are going to hand out bibles at the end of the year.

Likewise, we want to encourage you and your CU to keep going throughout the term so that in the end of the year we can share stories together and see how God has done even more things in the schools of the UK this year.
If you’d like some help or want the NG team to visit your school, don’t hesitate to send us a message on Facebook or email us.

Maybe you still love Pokémon, perhaps your hair is so big that it makes you look 5 inches taller, you’re possibly that person who sings way too loudly and maybe your laugh sounds more like a cackle. We all have these habits and hobbies that we don’t really want to see exposed in the tabloids. Sometimes these less flattering personal traits make us feel out of place and awkward, and this awkwardness might even make us think “really God, can you use this?”

But you know what? I believe that what we define as flaws are actually strengths, things that makes us stand out from the crowd. And actually if there is something that God can use it’s just that, the things that make us different. If you love comic books, make a comic book about the gospel. If you sing way too much, sing about how much Jesus loves your friends, if you laugh too loud and too often, laugh with your friends whilst sharing your testimony.

Let’s decide to stop seeing our quirks as flaws. Let’s embrace our own uniqueness and realise that this is something amazing that can be used by God. Let’s start to think a little bit bigger about ourselves and our gifts. Let’s make Gods kingdom a place of colour. Because really, if God wanted you any different, he would have made you so.

Leave three city girls in a dark forest for a night. Make them find their food in the woods, watch them struggle to survive the evening and complete ultimate challenges chosen by the viewers. And when the night is over, make them find their way back home without transport, without a map, without any clue of where they are and without the aid of their precious iPhones.

No, this is not just another reality TV-show. We (The New Generation UK team) are taking fundraising to an entirely new level and have decided to do “I’m a Teamer, Get Me Out of Here” – IRL. In two weeks time you can be a part of making this happen to the UK team by sponsoring New Generation with your money.

Why? Because we care enough about New Generation to sacrifice convenience and comfort. We care so much about the vision of New Generation that we’re willing to face potential mental breakdown out in the wild, and then display our weakest moments on Facebook for your amusement.

Do you want to see videos of your beloved NG team swallowing repulsively unappetizing substances appear on your Facebook feed? Then click in to Just Giving and donate money to New Generation to make the challenges on the “Challenge stair” happen. If you’d like to sponsor us with £2 or £200 that’s completely up to you, but if you want to make sure that the suffering is ultimate we highly recommend you to dig a little bit deeper in to your pockets.

The challenge stair:

£25 - Repeat Rebecca Blacks “Friday” 10 times in the dark, cold forest
£50 - Hug a tree for one hour
£100 – The ultimate smoothie
£200 – Wasabi contest
£500 – Bush Tukka trials

Just giving:

I’m teaming because a year with New Generation is, no matter how cliché it sounds, a year like no other. It’s a year where you get to be a part of sharing the infectious NG spirit and encourage young people to be a part of what I believe is a movement of God. You get to see young heroes impact their schools by bravely stepping out in their schools, and really it’s so inspiring it gives me shivers.

I’m teaming because I believe that the society of tomorrow is in the school of today and I want to be a part of making sure that that society is a warmer, better place that knows about the God that loves and created them. I’m teaming because I want to be a part of seeing students all over this world bravely step out in their schools shining out the light of God. I’m teaming because I want to be a part of seeing young people rising up, boldly declaring “We are the New Generation, and we will not be silent.”

Really, to me it’s a privilege to get to be a part of this. It’s a privilege to be in the company of these young heroes. The experience and inspiration I gain from this is so precious to me and I wouldn’t exchange it for anything.

That’s why I’m teaming.

There are so many Christian organisations you could do a gap year with in the UK. But the reason I chose to team with New Generation is that it’s unique in two ways.

1. The NG vision- that young people could change the future of our society by impacting the people they see every day by living “Others First” Lifestyles, and sharing the Good News in their schools. It’s so simple, yet amazing!

2. There’s this infectious positivity NG carries, “NG Pep”, as the Swedish team call it. It’s like a special atmosphere that New Generation has, that says “God is with you, you can do anything!”, and they really believe that it’s true.

I love being a part of that. There’s nothing better than when young people start to see themselves the way that God sees them, as young heroes. It’s so energising to get to do a job that is basically encouraging people, travelling and drinking coffee! Sharing testimonies from around the world I can get so excited about what God’s doing, not just here, but in Europe too. When you meet the international teams and hear about the groups they’re supporting, you see how God is on the move and just can’t help but be in awe of how he still chooses the young, the unlikely and the ill-equipped to carry out his plans. I cannot wait for the day that NG achieves its vision of seeing a Christian school-group in every school in Europe! How could you not want to be a part of that?

I wish I had a CU myself in my school so that I every day could have been reminded about God and my faith. Instead I hid it a bit and only mentioned it if I really had to. I wasn’t ashamed of my faith, I just didn’t want to share it. It was more important to fit in.
So to be a teamer for 10 months, the person that I needed to help me back in school, feels awesome. My favourite time of the day is the time we spend in the car, because either we are excited about the meeting we are on the way to or we are amazed by the people we just met. I get so inspired and impressed by all the young people who stand up for Jesus in their school. I also realise how much more brave they are than I was in my school.

I’m from Sweden, but I chose to be a teamer in England because it felt like a bigger adventure, and it is! To improve my English skills, be a part of the English culture and be able to see Britain’s beautiful nature every day is such a privilege, and I absolutely love it. Plus, I get to live and work with amazing people, and meet teamers from all over the world. Teaming with NG, I have gained experience and friends for life. I could never regret this year – a Gap Year with New Generation really is A Year Like No Other!

14th of February. It’s one date just like any other and yet all of a sudden the whole world suffers from love mania. It completely explodes and spits out cascades of pink hearts, sugary sweets and Hallmark cards with cheesy love poems. On Valentines day the world loves everyone and everyone loves the world.

Without a doubt, Valentines day has become one of the most hyped and celebrated days of the year. Why? Because it’s all about the thing that everyone longs for most, love. That’s why we at New Generation believe it’s a great opportunity for your CU to reach out to your school. What defines the God we believe in better than love? The reason Jesus came down to earth in the first place, the essence of the gospel really is love. “For God so loved the world that he gave his own son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Remember that this Valentines day and reach out to your school. Why not make your own Valentines cards? If Hallmark can do it, so can you. Or put hearts on lockers with messages of love or bible verses on them. And as always, the New Generation team is here at your service. So if you need an extra hand, we’re just an email or phone call away.
