Poster + Prayer = PotentialPosted: 09 Feb 12 | By: Daniel van der Spuy
Säde is the leader of the New Generation group in her Arts and Design high school in Lapinlahti, Finland. Last year she realised that prayer really works!
About a year ago Säde, who goes to Lapinlahti high school in northern Finland got the idea of starting a New Generation group. She had heard of NG from friends and after reading an article about New Generation she took the final step and started the group with her friend Mira. The two girls started to meet up once a week and pray for their school and their friends.
Säde and Mira wanted to reach out to their school in some way, and they decided to put up a poster. The text “We follow Jesus, ask us why” along with a picture of the two girls was printed and placed in the school foyer for everyone to see. Säde and Mira waited for a response, but no one seemed to notice the poster and if someone did they never mentioned it, so the girls took down the posters, slightly disappointed.
A few months later a girl started talking to Säde and Mari about their faith, and after thinking about it she decided to start following Jesus herself and joined the New Generation group! Säde and Mira didn’t realise it first, but later they found out that the girl was prompted to talk to them because of the poster.
“We thought it was all in vain first, but then this girl became a Christian!” Säde says. “When we started the group we wondered if we were making any difference but now we know that what we do has an effect! -So we’ve started to pray even more”, she adds.
Now the New Generation group in Lapinlahti high school has grown to 5 members, and they are going strong, planning new outreaches and praying regularly. The group has noticed that there is a real interest in Jesus and Christianity in their school. Remember: no prayers are in vain!
